Last year, AllSecure announced plans to release a new MPI for processing EMVCo 3-D Secure 2.0 (3DS 2.0) transactions. The latest version of the 3DS protocol includes several changes to the handling of eCommerce payments. Furthermore, 3DS 2.0 is fully aligned with the PSD2 regulations on strong customer authentication, which will come into effect in Europe on September 14 this year. All major schemes are expected to begin offering 3DS 2.0 processing from April 2019 onward, giving customers time to migrate to the latest protocol before the PSD2 deadline.
Customers in Europe are strongly recommended to migrate to 3DS 2.0 by September 14, 2019, when the PSD2 mandates on SCA come into effect. While it is possible to meet these requirements using 3DS 1.0 if used in combination with two-factor authentication (2FA), 3DS 2.0’s built-in 2FA support brings it fully in line with these PSD2 mandates. Transactions that do not meet these requirements (those that are not authenticated by a form of 2FA) have a high chance of being declined by the issuer once PSD2 comes into effect.
Please note that our OPEN Payments Gateway 3DS 2.0 solution is only available via the SecurePay and Server2Server APIs. Integration documentation for 3DS 2.0 solution is available now for merchants on: https://allsecure.docs.oppwa.com/support/3d-secure-2.0-guide .
